From the Water by Ajeet
This song was born out of the feeling of stepping into something new, something unknown. It feels like birth, like coming into a new space with fragile steps. Many things in my world and in the lives of my loved ones were changing in big ways, so I wanted to capture that feeling of the uneasy first steps into a new chapter through sound. The song is in a 5/4 time signature, so it is almost what we are used to, but something about it just feels different, like we don’t quite know how to step or move on this new ground. I loved capturing a feeling, to the best of my ability, that we all feel in life. Life asks us to trust ourselves to find a new way in a new chapter. I sang for my bandmate who is becoming a mother, for myself going into a new surgery, for every person taking a step onto foreign ground with a sense of openness to the sacred possibility of what lies in the places we don’t yet know.
