“Lucia” means light.

Lucia Day, December 13th, is festival of light celebrated in Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Swedish-speaking areas in Finland, and in Italy also.

In the third century, Lucia's sight was taken from her by those who feared her light. Miraculously she was still able to see.

From ancient times, Norse cultures celebrated the Winter Solstice with bonfires, torches, and candles to strengthen and encourage the waning sun.

In later centuries, the story of Lucia and her light was incorporated into ancient winter solstice tradition.

As a spirit, saint, angel, and ideal, Lucia’s guidance is soft yet her presence is fierce.

She whispers, "Look inward and see.
"Honor the heart space, put it first, act from here, let it lead," she intones.

Lucia shines light on what we are blind to.
She calls us to support each other, to inspire, listen, cheer on and share our light with those in need.”
