Ecological consciousness requires a deep respect for the natural world and all things within it. It's generally understood to be a term which reflects the psyche of an individual in relationship to and with Nature.
"Wake up to find out that you are the eyes of the world."
"The structure of the world itself, it functions on natural law, and the natural law is a powerful regenerative process. Its a process of regeneration that continues and grows and is endless. Its absolutely endless if everyone agrees to the law and follows the law. But if you challenge the law, and you think you are going to change the law, then you are bound to failure…"
~ John Trudell, Native American activist

"The fundamental illusion that modern humans need to wake up from now is the idea that we are somehow separate from Nature. We are not separate, we are Nature herself, in human form. We are a part of a greater Earth community, children of this living planet. Once this understanding becomes "common sense" for high technology cultures and civilizations, humanity will be able to solve the problems we've created, by believing we were somehow superior to other species and separate from our Mother, the Earth."

“We often forget that WE ARE NATURE. Nature is not something separate from us. So when we say that we have lost our connection to nature, we’ve lost our connection to ourselves.”

"When we speak of Nature it is wrong to forget that we are ourselves a part of Nature. We ought to view ourselves with the same curiosity and openness with which we study a tree, the sky or a thought, because we too are linked to the entire Universe."

"We are life. We are nature. We are Universe. Self-reflexive consciousness allows us different perspectives on this ever-transforming and evolving whole we participate in — this all that we are reflections of. We bring forth a world together, as embodied manifestations of the universe co-creating the world through how we participate and what we pay attention to and care about."

“The goal of life is to make your heartbeat match the beat of the universe, to match your nature with Nature.”

"Look deep into Nature and you will understand everything better."

"Allow Nature's peace to flow into you, as sunshine flows into trees."

"Be still, and the earth will speak to you."

"Wake up to find out that you are the eyes of the world."

"Gratefulness is the key to a happy life, because if we are not grateful, then no matter how much we have we will not be happy -- because we will always want to have something else or something more." ~ Brother David Steindl-Rast

“You are in relationships with the external world that are, on the whole, incredibly harmonious. But we have this rather myopic way of looking at things. And we screen out from attention anything that is not immediately important to a scanning system based on sensing danger.”
~ Alan Watts
“We are all floating in a tremendous river and the river carries you along. Some of the people in the river are swimming against the current, but they are still being carried along. Others have learned that the art of the thing is to swim with it. You have to flow with the river. There is no other way. You can swim against it, and pretend not to be flowing with it. But you still flow with the river.”

“When you know that you have to go with the river, suddenly you acquire—behind everything that you do—the power of the river.”
“You hear the sound of water… And that’s quite as important as anything I’ve got to say.”

"Every child is born in the garden of humanity as a flower. Each flower differs from every other flower. There are many messages in our society that tell us, even when we’re young people, that there’s something wrong with us and that if we just buy the right product, or look a certain way, or have the right partner, that will fix it. As grown-ups, we can remind young people that they’re already beautiful as they are; they don’t have to be someone else." ~ Thich Nhat Hanh
